The main Press Centre will be situated in the Event Centre in Aarhus, with similar facilities provided at the competition venues. The Press Centre will have a number of computers with internet connection as well as plenty of telephones, photocopiers, fax machines and printers.
The latest in proven electronic technology will be employed to present pictures and news of the progress of the races in dynamic form in the race arenas and on the WOC website.
A real-time results service will provide current elapsed and intermediate times continuously displayed on a giant screen alongside live action from the races. This information will be displayed simultaneously on the internet along with the race commentary in sound, so that the runners’ performance in the forest can be followed live by orienteers across the whole world.
A comprehensive and up-to-the-second commentary service will enable all watchers to fully identify themselves with the leading runners’ race against the exacting terrain and time’s relentless count-down. Our ‘whispering men’ (and/or women) deep in the forest will complement the arena commentators to give a fascinating in-depth description of each race as it unfolds.
The commentary will be relayed over high-quality sound equipment at the race venues and in the Event Centre and broadcast on the event website.
Denmark has previously hosted the World Cup in 1990 and 1996 as well as the Park World Tour in 1999. Each time there have been lengthy reports on TV from these events. This time we are proud to announce that the national TV channel Danmarks Radio will show lengthy 30 minutes summaries from all 4 finals. These broadcasts have all been offered to all other countries in Europe through the European Broadcasting Union.
Arrangements will be established to send TV and radio transmissions to any country via regional stations and networks based in Aarhus.
Additional support can be expected through collaboration with the Danish elite sport institution Team Denmark.
Press conferences will be held at the Event Centre as well as at the race arenas.
Providing opportunities for the press to publicise our sport of orienteering before, during and after WOC will carry high priority.
